Visiting this house was a lot of fun! The fact that tours are free makes it an even better experience. The house itself is much larger than I expected, and the history is fascinating. Before the tour, there's a very informative video that provides a lot of background information. Personally, I would have preferred a more guided experience with the history shared as we walked through the house. That said, I can understand why they do it this way—it's easier for larger groups, and stopping to explain everything throughout the tour would make it much longer. The house is located in a beautiful neighborhood and is an easy walk from downtown Grand Rapids. If you're in the area and enjoy history or architecture, I would definitely recommend a visit.

Visitor notes
If you enjoy the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright this will be a treat! It is free to tour this heritage home but reservations are recommended because space is limited. This is a beautiful home & the docents are full of fun facts & information. If you are in the area be sure not to miss this hidden gem!
Beautifully restored Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home in Grand Rapids, south free tours available in Tuesdays and Thursdays if you call ahead and reserve your spots. 1.5hr total time, with a 30 min video of the restoration by Steelcase Co, followed by the tour
I’ve seen about a dozen FLW works and this one definitely stands out in terms of how passionately and faithfully their restoration project has been, which is detailed in the half hour or so video they play before the tour begins. Beautiful house with the common elements (light screens, cantilevers, etc) present, but of course the building is unique in its own right. Being a free house tour, this is a must see in GR, but must reserve a spot at least a few weeks ahead of time.
A beautifully restored Prairie-style home designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1908–09. The architecture is stunning — clean horizontal lines, leaded glass windows, and an incredible attention to detail throughout. The interior feels like a work of art, with original and reproduced Wright furnishings and a peaceful connection to the gardens outside. Free tours include a short film and expert insight into Wright’s vision. An absolute must-visit for architecture lovers or anyone exploring Grand Rapids!
I had a wonderful experience visiting the Meyer May House. The restoration is absolutely stunning and really brings Frank Lloyd Wright’s vision to life. The guided tour was very informative, and the staff were knowledgeable and welcoming. It’s incredible to see such attention to detail in both the architecture and the furnishings. Definitely a must-visit if you are in Grand Rapids!
We had a fantastic experience touring the Meyer May House! The home itself is a beautifully preserved example of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Prairie-style architecture, and it was fascinating to see the thoughtful details and restoration work that went into it. Our guide, Stewart (Stew), was excellent—warm, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about the history and design of the house. He struck the perfect balance between sharing detailed information and keeping the tour engaging. He answered questions thoughtfully and added a personal touch that made the experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommend this tour if you’re interested in architecture, design, or simply want to see a piece of history brought to life.
Definitely recommend this tour! Especially because it’s free. The house is really beautiful inside, especially the first floor. The video before the tour is informative and interesting even though it’s from the late 80s, and the docents clearly love this house!
