Long Island Children's Museum

The Long Island Children’s Museum was such a nice place to visit. The entirety of the place was wide open and clean, including the restrooms. There were so many activities that pointed to local and international culture: fishing market, boat and canoe to play in, traditional homes from around the world, etc. My kids got a kick out of the stop-photography movie maker and “old” telephones. We also spent a lot of time just playing with scarves in the Saltwater Stories area and building with all of the blocks, too. The music room was also a hit. There is also a huge doll house with so many amazing tiny details to see; we found something new each time we looked in the rooms! The museum was fun for the littlest of visitors (there’s a dedicated room for kiddos 4 and under as soon as you enter) and I saw older kiddos around 12-ish having fun, too. There is also an outdoor section, but we didn’t have time to explore there. We did, however, make the 2-minute walk to Nunley’s Carousel and took a couple of rides in it before it closed for the day (closes at 3, last ride is at 2:45).

My kids absolutely love the Long Island Children’s Museum, and I highly recommend it to anyone with children. It is packed with hands-on activities that keep them engaged for hours. They especially love the Bubbles exhibit and the Tool Box, where they can actually craft with real hammers and wood. The block building, sand play, and music areas are also huge hits with us. ​Beyond just play, the educational value is excellent. The Communication Station and Your House, My House (which explores homes around the world) are very well done, as is the Feasts for Beasts animal exhibit. ​They also feature great rotating exhibits. Right now, we really enjoyed the "Emotions at Play" (Pixar’s Inside Out) exhibit—it was a highlight of our recent visit. If you’re looking for a fun, educational day out for the family, this place is a must-visit.

We had a good time at the Long Island Children’s Museum overall, though I do think the sand area could be improved. What turned the day disappointing was a purchase we made for our toddler at the gift shop. One of the items was a soft hot dog-shaped sensory toy. Later, when our child did what toddlers often do and bit into it, a strange goo immediately began seeping out. She was so startled that she vomited. Thankfully, I was there and made sure she did not ingest any of the substance. My concern is that a children’s museum should be much more careful about the products it sells, especially toys intended for young children. Selling something with unknown material inside that can leak out so easily feels like a serious oversight. This was our experience, and I would encourage other parents to be cautious. And what a response, just saying that you'll look into it and suggesting that a 3 year old would know not to bite fake food. Not giving what you think it's giving.

Came for a birthday party and I loved how attentive staff was, as well as engaging. Coming from the boroughs, the commute wasn’t too bad. Plenty of parking. The exhibits were cute but be prepared for the crowds on the weekend.

Brought our daughter and she had a great time. We spent about an hour there but wish there was more to do and see. We were able to get through everything in that time and will likely bring her back once she's a bit older (by then she should have forgotten most of it).

We love the LICM! Went weekly to the music classes from about 2022-2024. My son got used to the place and it felt like his own playground that he always wanted to come back to. Mrs Melissa was added about a year into going to music classes and we have loved her energy since day one. Perfect addition! Now that my 2nd baby is ready for the class we are back at it and enjoying every second of it. Everyone needs to look at the museum as a place for community! Not just a place you go to once a year or less. Your kids will benefit!

This was a fantastic day and experience! Dedicated area for kids under 4, but they were still welcome and avke to interact everywhere else with only a few exceptions!! My Grandson (18 months old) had a terrific time !!! All staff members were helpful and great at interacting with kids. They had many staff available to help and, it seemed, to be noting what was a highly interacted with exhibit as well as things that need a polishing up. They do themed events during the year and they are getting ready for winter celebrations ! There was a great deal of educational content as well, not just play zones. Bring a lunch or snacks, there is a cafeteria where you can eat, which has a couple of vending machines, but they are pricey.

This was my first time booking a party with LICM and it will not be my last! The coordinator Tiffany had a schedrule ready for me to review when i arrived as well as a designated coat holder for our guests. I chose the pant party package for my son’s 5th birthday. We were designated two support staff members to help coordinate the party as well as setting up and breaking down the decorations. I also love that they recycled all of the popped balloons and they use it to make fun decor around the museum. Even though our party room slot was only for two hours, our guests were able to explore and enjoy the museum the entire day. The experience was well worth it. I would recommend LICM to any party seeking a fun and affordable experience fo their child’s birthday
