Sooo huge lots of emptiness. Most installations are gigantic! Seems very modern which is the vibe . Water is gorgeous wish we could play in it . The Rashid Johnson stuff was very peculiar and then harsh and dark and then bright and colorful. The plant installation was super cool. And the clay and sunflower piece were astounding. I loved it sooo much. It takes up the whole room with its presence! Very cool free on Fridays!!

The astetic was stone and light.🗿✨ The interior was not much different from the exterior. Concrete. Cold. 🏔️But also, it was warm. 🪟The windows reached a ceiling so high that it never made sense to look up, it gave the illusion that you were still outdoors. A small pool hugged the window and the light like a good friend. This was a stark contrast to the cold and searing tokens of affection within. The smell of Shea butter and live flora mixing with music and short stories, playing ad infinitum, felt like visiting with family and listening too every corner of a space erupt into sound. It was beautiful and tragic and magic and familiar, all at the same time. The permanent pieces were a little bit warmer. There was nudity, family and a blob in the corner. 😉If you haven't seen Rashid Johnson: A Poem for Deep Thinkers, then I would give it five out of five. (My daughter was pretty bored but it did give her sone inspiration.👌🏾💪🏾)
One of my favorite museums. The space is beautiful and tranquil. I have seen sooo many exhibits on Free Friday. Thank you Modern! You must stop by the gift shop. There are so many great items to take home and give as gifts. Pencils, pins, scarves, books, playing cards. I could spend all my money on Washi tape. Go and Enjoy some art
Yesterday while in FT Worth, Texas I visited the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth and Kimbell Art Museum. The contrast between the two is great to see one after another to observe the evolution of people's creative abilities.
Walking into the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth felt like stepping into a calm, quiet reset button. The first thing that hit me wasn’t even the art… it was the space. That building? Clean. Glass everywhere. Water surrounding it like it’s just minding its business, reflecting everything back at you. It felt peaceful but also a little intimidating like, okay… I need to think in here 😭 Inside, it’s not your typical “pretty paintings on the wall” type of museum. This is the kind of place where you look at something and go: “Wait… what am I supposed to be feeling right now?” And honestly? I liked that. Some pieces had me standing there for a minute trying to get it, while others hit immediately like, oh yeah… that’s deep. It’s very much interpret it your way. No right or wrong answer, which I respect because life already be giving enough tests. What I appreciated most is how quiet and open it is. You’re not rushed. You’re not overwhelmed. You can literally walk, pause, think… or just sit and stare at the water and have a whole life reflection moment if you need to. Now let me be real for a second This is not a “fun, loud, take-the-kids-and-run-around” type of spot. This is a slow down, be still, maybe question your life choices a little bit kind of vibe. But if you’re into: • Peaceful environments • Thought-provoking art • Solo dates or soft reset days This place? Yeah… it eats. Would I go again? Absolutely. Especially on one of those days when my brain feels loud and I need somewhere quiet but still inspiring.
My 3rd visit, this time took relatives to see all 3 museums in FTW. The modern art museum is a beautiful bldg. but exhibits are lacking. Very few visitors at this museum compared to other 2 (Amon & Kimbell). Rashid Johnson exhibit made me think of PJW’s view on much of modern art - it’s Crap!
Located at 3200 Darnell Street in Fort Worth’s Cultural District, the Modern is an exceptional destination for art lovers and architecture enthusiasts alike. The museum’s building, designed by renowned architect Tadao Ando, features concrete, glass and steel pavilions that seem to float above a reflecting pond — a true modern masterpiece. Inside, you’ll find more than 3,000 works of art from the post-World War II era to the present, including pieces by major artists across multiple movements. The grounds are tranquil and beautifully maintained, offering peaceful spots for reflection and photography. Visitor Tips: Free parking is available in the museum lots. For busy times, additional free parking is offered in nearby garages on weekends. Admission is reasonably priced. Plan to spend at least 1–2 hours to fully appreciate both the architecture and the exhibitions — it’s well worth the time.
The building is super pretty and peaceful, with all the glass and water around it. It just feels calm as soon as you walk in. The art is very “modern,” so some pieces I really liked and others I didn’t fully get, but that’s kind of part of it. It’s not overwhelming though, which I appreciated. You can just walk around at your own pace and take it in without feeling rushed. It’s the kind of place you go when you want something lowkey but still interesting. I’d go back, even just for the atmosphere.
