TVA Fontana Dam Visitors Center

When we visited in February we had the place to ourselves, the views were amazing. The reservoir was extremely low, crazy to see how far the water level will eventually rise back up. Had a great time, I would definitely recommend visiting.

Hidden gem! Its free and worth the drive. We went in February and the shop and vistor center is closed but the bathrooms and observation deck were open. So glad we went. Walked out on top of the dam and up on the observation deck. The bathrooms were clean.

Very cool place to visit! They have a visitor's center with a lot of information about why the dam was built and how it works. They also have an observation tower that allows you to see both sides. It's a very beautiful location. They also have a gift shop. I believe they also have a snack bar area as well.

Interesting place to visit. They had a couple of videos worth watching and you can walk across the top of the dam.

The dam is amazing and the history behind it is fascinating. It also is part of the Appalachian Trail, you have to literally walk across the top of the dam to stay on the trail. But the best part was how welcoming and informative the visit center workers were.

Very cool to see. Great that you can walk out on the bridge. You get up close to the spillway. Beautiful views all around. Beware of taking The Dragons aka US 129 to or from the Gatlinburg area. My wife got motion sickness from the curvy road. It’s an amazing drive though. There’s a lot of sports cars speeding up and down this section of road. It looks like fun and I was jealous of them.

There are really nice air conditioned bathrooms here! I believe there are showers as well. We came after a backpacking trip on the Appalachian Trail (it is on the other side of the dam). The visitor center is nice, too. The view from the dam is beautiful! I'd definitely love to come back someday and explore the area around the lake

Visitor Center/Gift shop and cafe is closed but the observation deck and restrooms were open. What a cool view for the largest dam in the Eastern US! They were doing work on the dam when we got there so we couldn't drive across. It was open to pedestrian traffic so we walked the length and got some nice photos on the other side. During the summer it is hot, so be sure to bring water. You can cool off in the restrooms! There are outdoor restrooms and showers there that are open. We enjoyed picnicking at the sheltered picnic area across from the visitor center area. Be sure to check out the views from that area including walking the paved trail up to the top of the hill and then down to the dock.
