Our “free” evaluation day turned into a very injured pup and vet bills. Prefacing this review with I have worked at a dog day care and boarding facility in the past. I’ve never had another dog get injured while there. We understand that a dog can get injured any time they’re around another dog whether it be day care or a dog park or at a friends house. However, the way that folsom pet resort has treated this incident is beyond unprofessional and very disappointing. We dropped off our 7 month golden retriever for his evaluation day. We were told they would text 2 hours in to let us know how he was doing and then contact us after the 4 hours to let us know if he passed evaluation. 5 hours went by with no word so I reached out and asked for an update. I received a progress report with very good feedback. I had communicated up front that he would bark at other dogs wanting to play but then was very timid. The progress report said he’d passed evaluation and so he was allowed to remain the rest of the day so we let him enjoy the rest of the day there. That afternoon when we went to pick him up we received a text that he had a “scratch” but no one knew what happened because he’d played politely or kept to himself all day. They stated they watched back camera footage and saw him barking at other dogs but no other dogs made contact with him so that’s somehow how he ended up injured. At pick up they again explained he was barking at other dogs and making it out to be that it was his fault he got injured but continuing to say no other dogs made contact with him which doesn’t explain how he ended up injured. Upon looking at our dog he had a hole in his face which looks very much like another dogs K9 tooth punctured his face next to his eye. It was not just a scratch it was an actual hole in his face. They claimed it did not bleed however there is dried blood dripping down his face. I was told that they don’t know how it happened because he kept to himself a lot which makes me wonder how long was he sitting by himself bleeding before someone noticed. I’d have to imagine if a dog injured me this badly I’d make a lot of noise. So the fact not a single staff member was around to see the incident or hear a dog yelping makes me wonder if there’s any supervision at this place. I have followed up with the “resort” since the incident and have been given the run around that the “manager” Madison would be in the next day and follow up or she’d contact me shortly. However, it appears Madison never shows up for work or doesn’t exist because I’ve not received any contact from her which explains why injuries are happening and no one is seeing or hearing them because there is no oversight and staff aren’t doing their jobs. Had they been up front and honest with us from the start about how this actually happened we would have had more respect and understanding. However, the continued lack of transparency and accountability alongside being ignored by management is what has led to this review. I don’t know how this place has this many good reviews when dogs are getting injured and they are refusing to take any responsibility or simply own up to what actually occurred. A dog doesn’t end up with an injury simply by barking at another dog and keeping to themself. Obviously another dog at the facility is injuring other dogs and this facility is lying to pet owners about what’s happening behind closed doors and it will happen again. Do yourself a favor and do not bring your dog here.

We boarded our two dogs, Kiki (American Eskimo) and Koko (Lab mix), at Folsom Dog Resort & Training Centre from May 1–11 in a Luxury Suite. We paid $1,750.40 and expected quality care, supervision, and peace of mind while we were out of state. Unfortunately, our experience was the opposite. Before their stay, we provided detailed written instructions, photos, feeding routines, sleeping arrangements, approved toys, and information about their nightly dental treats. Despite this, many of our instructions were ignored. During the first few days, our dogs were not given their crate, blanket, or approved toys until we repeatedly contacted staff after noticing this through the cameras. On the third day, staff informed us that Koko had developed a cough and nasal discharge. We were extremely concerned because he had never shown these symptoms before. We continued asking for updates, but responses were often delayed for hours and usually consisted of vague assurances that he was “doing better.” We also noticed through the cameras that Koko, a very active dog, was spending excessive amounts of time confined to his suite rather than receiving exercise and enrichment. When we contacted the facility, communication between the front desk and kennel staff seemed disorganized, and it was difficult to get clear answers. The situation became much worse on May 7 when we were informed that Koko’s eyes were swollen, red, and covered with discharge. We insisted he be taken to a veterinarian. He was prescribed antibiotics, eye drops, and a cough suppressant. After returning from the vet, he was moved out of his suite and off-camera without our knowledge. We later learned he had been isolated, but nobody had communicated this to us beforehand. One moment completely destroyed our trust. We requested a photo of Koko’s eyes and asked staff to clean them. Instead, we watched on camera as an employee quickly took a picture and left without cleaning his eyes. At that point, he could barely open them because of conjunctivitis. When we picked up our dogs, both Kiki and Koko were coughing, and Koko was still suffering from a severe eye infection. Thankfully, after two weeks of proper care at home, both dogs recovered. We paid $1,750.40 for what was advertised as a luxury boarding experience and received two sick dogs in return. The lack of communication, failure to follow instructions, excessive confinement, and handling of Koko’s illness left us deeply disappointed. Most importantly, we trusted this facility with our dogs' health and safety. Looking back, we are thankful that Kiki and Koko recovered and made it home safely. No pet owner should have to spend their trip worrying about whether their dogs are receiving proper care.
Definitely wouldn’t leave cats here, they don’t have space to play regularly and don’t get let out of their 1x1 boxes. Cats are treated as an after thought. Mine with arthritis limped around the house for 3 days after a short stay because he wasn’t given access to move freely. Dogs are treated a little better but the whole facility is run daily by teenagers and if someone is having a bad day, the dogs will too. Staff are told they can’t talk to each other while working - by superiors. Pets are taken out to no cover when it’s too hot in the summer (over 100). I would recommend leaving pets with a facility that prioritizes pet happiness, health, and care over profits. For hundreds of dollars, pets shouldn’t be left inside their kennel for up to 20 hours a day. Their training team does well. Day visits for training are probably what they should stick to. There are other facilities in the area that are better for long stays for both dogs and cats.
Jake had so much fun during his stay for Christmas. The crew followed his eating schedule that was provided. Loved how the crew interact and played with him and corrected any wrong doing Jake did. They give a report card of how he was and what things he liked, I thought that was great. They also gave him a Santa stocking filled with toys and treats he loved those :) Jake got pampered as well on the last day of his stay it was grooming so he was clean and fresh upon going home. Jake really loves the Folsom Dog Resort I take him there for everything. The crew is super nice and friendly. I plan on making another reservation for next Christmas. Thank you :)
Until today I probably would give 5 stars: We had a really scary experience with Folsom Dog Resort involving our dog’s medication. When we dropped her off, we brought her medication pre-portioned and clearly labeled with the times and exact doses she was supposed to receive. We also went over everything with reception at check-in and confirmed multiple times that her dose was only 1/4 tablet. When we picked her up around 2 PM the next day, we discovered they had already gone through what should have been her entire 24-hour supply for the day because their system apparently listed the dose as 1 and 1/4 tablets instead of 1/4 tablet. To be fair, it’s possible there may have been an error entered somewhere online during the intake process. But that is exactly why we verified the medication instructions again in person at check-in. The whole purpose of that conversation should have been to catch and correct any discrepancy before medication was administered. The medication was Cardizem, which is a heart medication. This is not a harmless mistake. Incorrect dosing can potentially cause serious issues involving heart rate and blood pressure, and it was honestly terrifying to realize what had happened. What really bothered us was that nobody stopped to question it or contact us to verify the dosage, even though the medication supply would have run out almost immediately if the amount in their system had actually been correct. Thankfully our dog seems okay, but this could have gone very differently. Mistakes happen, but when you’re handling medications, especially heart medications, there absolutely needs to be better verification and communication procedures in place. We trusted them to care for our dog safely, and after this experience, I’m honestly not sure I feel comfortable trusting them with her care again.
We love this place for training, daycare and grooming! Our rescued Australian Labradoodle was attended the dog boarding with training and this program worked wonders! Both our Golden retriever and doodle love to go play with all their dog friends for daycare with the attentive staff. Kayla, our groomer, gets the cut perfect for us. We always recommend this wonderful place!
Horrible experience. Brought 2 pups in for evaluation. I had to ask for a tour of facility and got a less than half tour. Employee hurried me theough and changed the subject when I asked to see the small dog section. The big dog section reeked of urine. Outside, the ratio of dogs to one employee seems outrageous. Dogs could barely turn around. Left pups for eval. Employee later text me that she was bothered that she had to 'deal with my 2 dogs" but, suggested they come back for an overnight stay. Upon pick up, one pup was covered in urine and no employee offer a towel or wet wipe or simple bath to wash feet and belly. When we got home both pups ran to water bowl and drank half of it. Then, one went outside a peed the longest pee. Who's running this place? I saw nothing but teenagers and cant help but wonder about the quality of training employees receive. When I asked for explanation of all steps taken when introducing pups to the "pack" its like the employees heard crickets. They dodged the question. Made second rqst via text message and again another blow off and a couple apologies I was told someone who was with the pups during eval would call me to answer any and all Qs. No call back. Think twice before sending your pets here. Take a tour.
I'm not sure what happened during our stay, but something felt off. The facility seemed fine, but my dog was quieter than usual when I picked him up. The staff was polite enough, though communication could have been better. The prices seemed high for what we got. Maybe it was just an off day, but I expected more for the cost. Wouldn't necessarily return.
