Going inside the bakery was so fun, and smelling all the fresh baked goods was amazing. There was a line up on entering and they have limited items as things were selling out fast. It prob took like 10 mins to order with the line. I got a few of their croissants, their chocolate chip cookie; sticky bun. - also my friend got their sourdough. I also ordered a brioche breakfast sandwich which had their signature jam on the inside and egg & bacon, wasn’t worth it for the $12. Their croissants are amazing quality and I love the crispy exterior and it was so fluffy and airy on the inside, highly recommend their croissants. - chocolate chip cookie wasn’t anything different than like a generic cookie, overall good. Overall, with the cost of inflation and prices rising, things are pricy, but great quality with fresh ingredients. I’d recommend their pastries to anyone looking for a snack/bite or even fresh bread!

I had a really good experience here. The staff were friendly and helpful, giving me good advice for what to get. I ordered two pastries and a Turkey Avo melt. The sandwich was great, and the pastries look delicious. I also always come here for my challah! The prices are a little steep but the food is well worth it!

Hewn is not just Evanston’s best bakery but a worthy rival to the heavy competition in the entire Chicagoland area! I was able to try a good handful of their pastries since we ordered some boxes for an event, and everything looked incredibly appetizing. You could tell the baked goods were made carefully and with high quality ingredients because they not only tasted amazing but looked the part as well. My favorite item was the orange cremeux kouign amann. I have never tried one of these before, so this was the perfect opportunity. This pastry, originating from Breton and literally translating to butter cake, masterfully combines the flaky layers of a croissant with a crunchy, caramelized base and culminates in what can only be described as sugary perfection. This specific kouign amann was filled with a citrusy paste and topped with Italian meringue, which added tartness to the dense yet soft pastry. Chocolate croissants are always good indicators for quality bakeries, and this one did not disappoint. It was massive, buttery, and filled with two batons of the richest Valrhona chocolate. The final sweet I tasted was the double ginger cookie. It was thin, crisp, and very chewy. I really enjoyed the texture, and the ginger taste was subtle but still evident. I will no doubt be visiting Hewn in person as there is still so much to try, especially their freshly baked breads. Please give Hewn a visit—I guarantee you will leave full with satisfaction (and carbs galore)!

They have the CUTEST little sign welcoming you in and you get the heads up of some delightful beverages to pair with any treats you pick up! Their loaves are my family’s favorite weekly staple, we’ve now tried almost every loaf on rotation they offer! My dog gets SO excited when he sees that brown bag come in the door, he knows the bread heels are his little treat! I feel great serving it to my family knowing there’s no preservatives or hidden added ingredients.

I got a latte, a sticky bun and a warmed up quiche. I wish I had taken a picture of the veggie quiche because it was just WOW. I will definitely go back for it. All pastries are pretty big and they look and taste amazing. My 10 month old also loved the quiche!

Honestly, no amount of stars, photos, or reviews could ever do justice to how incredible Hewn is. Whether it’s the viennoiseries, the pastries, or the quiches, everything is consistently delicious every single time I visit. Don't walk—run there!

Omg, when I tell you me and my family have never had better pastries in our LIVES!! They’re fresh baked in the back (which you can see) and the display was great. The bread looked pretty mesmerizing too. They had a huge selection of different but amazing pastries. We walked in mad and fighting and walked out in absolute BLISS. The morning bun, raspberry thing (forgot its name), and chocolate croissant made my day so much happier. We also got some coffees and just heaven I swear. Service was amazing and our cashier was so bright and kind. Please go there your day will be so much brighter.

Hewn is the best bakery I’ve ever patronized. Ellen, Julie, and Sara run an incredible operation. I’ve never had a bad bite from here; the breads, the cookies, scones and sandwiches it’s all 👌
