My husband and I went for dinner. The wait staff was attentive and the food was delicious! We loved sitting on the covered patio with the natural lighting. We started with the firecracker shrimp appetizer which was tasty. We both loved our dinners. I got the skirt steak and swapped the fries for potatoes. It was cooked perfectly. He chose the Tavern Signature Cheeseburger. While it was a bit messy (stacked with toppings), he liked it. He said he'd probably chopse a different one in the future.

Excellent cuisine from full entree plates to handhelds, soups and salads. I had the Flatiron Steak Frittes which was excellent. The atmosphere and wait staff were lovely as well. Highly recommended.
This was our first visit, and it was a very pleasant experience overall for my wife and I. It is quite the location, the look is very impressive without being overwhelming. They host special events there and I could see where that would be a great fit for your big day or night out. We went on a Saturday around 6:30 and were very pleased to not have to wait for a table. We were greeted as we entered by the host and she led us to our booth. The dining room is very nice, with a fireplace. (not burning when we were there) If I had to make any adjustments to the dining area it would be this. Tone down the very bright lights. 💡 For dinner, I decided to keep things very basic. To this end, I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with fries and my wife ordered the beef brisket sandwich with onion rings. My burger was perfect. just as I ordered it. Cooked through but not dried out. I ordered a Caesar salad to go with it. Very traditional, with homemade croutons. 👍 My wife greatly enjoyed her brisket. Messy, delicious and perfect with the onion rings. the beer and cocktail selections should please most.
Even though this is on a golf course, this is very much a restaurant you can eat at even if you don't care about your stroke. They have a small variety of typical pub food, all done well. Sandwiches, burgers, and the like. Even though it's sort of a bar, they do have a kids menu as well. Prices are a bit higher, as the atmosphere and proximity to a bougie sport course demand. If you are quite hungry, I would recommend ordering an appetizer as well, as the main dishes are not huge. They can also accommodate large events and parties here, and have some private back rooms for just that.
Food, service, and staff were amazing. It's definitely worth the hr drive for us. One thing to keep in mind is that if you make a reservation, be aware that one Sundays they close at 4 pm. I did one for 6 cause said was open. Black River called me and let me know that wouldn't work. I had to change to the next Sunday at an earlier time. They made it right, and it isn't their fault that the Open Door app won't update the correct hours. Also if never been there it is on ground level to the left. We went up the stairs and that isn't the restaurant. All in all a great time, and will definitely be back.
Today was our first visit to Black River Tavern. My husband and I were looking for a late lunch expecting bar food. What we received was an eye opening wonderful experience! We were greeted warmly by the manager and ushered to our table. We had Kara as our server and she was phenomenal! We didn’t expect the food to be hand crafted…what a fantastic surprise. I had the beef brisket which was hearty and tasty…not fatty and stringy. My husband had fresh walleye on a subzero January day! The drinks were artisanal creations…the pomegranate margarita was the best I’ve ever had. The manager gave close attention to detail without being hovering. Kara’s service was spot on and we didn’t feel rushed. We discovered a diamond at a very affordable price point. Although it was our first visit, it certainly won’t be our last! Bravo!
We made a reservation on OpenTable because we were visiting the area for an event and wanted to grab a nice lunch beforehand. The menu looked absolutely fantastic but we left almost two hours later very unimpressed. Our server seemed distracted at best and spent as little time at our table as possible. The lobster tots were the appetizer we were looking forward to most and sadly the Boursin cheese sauce seriously lacked in flavor. They came out lukewarm and the meatball appetizer was downright cold. The stuffed mushrooms arrived a few moments later (hot thankfully) and were our favorite! We each got an entree for four total and two of the four were cold again, specifically the ravioli. I’m not sure if it was made first and sat in the pass to die while waiting on everything else but that would be my assumption. The steak was overcooked but still tender, we just wished the fries were hot. The short rib dinner tasted nothing like coffee but the mashed potatoes were fantastic. Our favorite entree was definitely the buffalo chicken mac and cheese. I’m not sure if there was an event or something else going on that we did not see, (there were only a handful of tables seated) but food getting out while still hot is definitely an issue that needs to be addressed. We expected better.
Everything was great the food the service .the clean nice appearance of the place.
