Check in process sets the low expectations- the valet is on lunch, took forever, feel like I was burden to staff. Room is dated, even though bathrooms were remodeled, furniture in the .. dining room(?) was gold colored and chipped. Very noisy, didn't get much sleep, bed was also uncomfortable, probably very old pillows, but then nobody cares since no one asked at check out. I wonder if they can buy towels from super 8, would be a bit less scratchy. On the other hand, the food was supreme, the restaurant staff was helpful, knowledgeable, friendly and fun. The art work is on another level, if you visit, take time to wonder around, wish I had more. The library has books I only dreamed of seeing, let along hold in my hands, so that's a highlight of my visit. The 'patio' had great view, but no staff, which was another let down. Perhaps less focus on dress code, also rules apparently dont apply to everyone equally, and more on guest experience, would make this place more desirable destination, maybe even a hidden gem in the very heart of Chicago.

Visitor notes
I want to explain why I consider this one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed at. Despite the amenities, the atmosphere makes it clear that you are not truly welcome there unless you are dressed in formal business attire. The room itself offers no special comfort despite all the prestige and exclusivity the property tries to project. It is an ordinary room that does not even include a minibar or refrigerator. One of the front desk employees, who appeared to work the night shift, came across as particularly judgmental. On multiple occasions, I felt that whether I was asked to show the room key to be allowed to go to my room depended on how I was dressed. The inconsistency in how I was treated left a very negative impression. The overall impression is that this is a private club first and a hotel second. At times, it feels as though they are doing guests a favor by allowing them to stay there. No one explains the amenities or what facilities guests are allowed to use. Need a workspace? There are some available, but you will have to ask the right people the right questions and prove that you are actually staying there, though, in my experience, this seemed to depend on how you were perceived. In the end, the worst part of the experience was the unwelcoming attitude I encountered from one member of the front desk staff. As for everything else, the hotel offers little beyond what you would expect from a basic roadside hotel, despite its reputation and appearance. Combined with the lack of clear information about the amenities available to guests, the overall experience was disappointing.
Probably the most interesting place I’ve stayed in. This is a historic place, functioning as a social club primarily. The architecture is just amazing- marble all around, breathtaking chandeliers, incredible woodwork, and so much artwork. The staff were all very professional and friendly. The room was well appointed, clean, and had all the needed amenities. Bed was comfortable. Rooms were quiet. Wifi was fast. Of course, location was excellent, right in downtown Chicago.
It was My first time visiting this reciprocal club (San Antonio Centre Club is My primary membership) and I must say what a spectacular experience!! We celebrated My cousin's 29th birthday here and we were blown away by the service that Dan provided in Rendezvous during our dinner. He provided excellent recommendations, gave us a historical account of the club, and even stopped to take the time to give us a tour of the library. I will definitely be visiting this club with each visit I make to Chicago!!
Ken, the wedding event manager is notoriously known in the industry for being difficult to work with among vendors. He's chummy with the couples and family but he's consistently unfriendly and rude to outside vendors. I've even done a private tour with him when a couple of mine had to cancel last minute and he couldn't wait for me to leave. I can say firsthand, he is the og ultimate grump. The venue itself is classic Chicago elegance but the rooms are some of the most dated in the city; the hallways, the lighting, the decor. The security and coat check guys are awesome. The grand halls and event spaces are beautiful. The art is honestly the most bizarre and random collection I've ever seen.
Attended a wedding. Cerimony, cocktails, dinner and dancing. Stayed 4 nights. Great service. Good food. Very old building with interesting architechture and art.
To be a guest. To be invited is an honor I had a small parking hiccup But thanks to the impeccable host Of this establishment fixed it in a second If your lucky enough to get in this Incredible building ask for ZAC He's a hands on leader I'll get it done attitude True customer service master I'm an architectural designer This building is stunning Thank you very much. ZAC
The location cant be beat. The main reason I booked a room is because I had a conference at this location. The rooms are a bit outdated though. There was peeling wallpaper, slow interne, dim lightingt and no views. The rooms definitely need to be refreshed.
