Lawrence's Fish & Shrimp

I do not usually leave reviews like this, but people need to be careful. I ordered the fried oysters and they tasted extremely fishy, far beyond what should be expected. Something seemed wrong immediately after taking a bite. Within about 2 minutes of eating them, my body rejected it and I threw up almost right away. I was not the only one affected either. Everyone who ate them with me ended up getting sick as well. This was not just a case of food not tasting good. In my experience, this felt like a serious food safety issue. The oysters tasted off, and the reaction happened so quickly that it was obvious something was not right. Getting sick from food you paid for is bad enough, but it becomes even more upsetting when multiple people have the same reaction. What made this worse is that I reported the situation through Uber, explained what happened, and expected the issue to be taken seriously from a customer resolution standpoint. Instead, Uber acknowledged the complaint, said they would investigate, but still refused to provide a refund or meaningful resolution. That is extremely disappointing when the complaint involves people getting sick after eating food that appeared unsafe. I am posting this so others can be aware before ordering from here, especially the oysters. Based on my experience, I would strongly recommend avoiding them entirely. No one should have to worry about getting sick immediately after eating their food, and no customer should be left dealing with this without proper accountability.

Havent been here in a long time. I ordered tye special..a catfish strip dinner. For fried food, it hit the spot...Thank-you Eric for helping me select my meal. Drop by and get some shrimp, fish...

They have a giant open lot next door big enough for multiple school buses. Thats what brought me here. Chicago is not bus parking friendly. Not even a fan of sea food but every time l come to Chicago 🚌 l try a new dish here. Absolutely fabulous fresh food. Also 24/7 so l can get it early in the morning. LOVE this place

Went here after a late night concert, and I loved the sea panting on the walls and the statues and the staff was super cool! I got the cod, it was great, I was hoping it might be in a bit more of a beer batter rather than a panko batter but it was still great, hot, fresh, and I will be back! My friend got the banana pudding and said it was super whip creamy and satisfying!

Nostalgia hit me as soon as I walked in. This place was a staple for my mom when I was a kid. They've made some changes since I was last here years ago. But there's just enough to make me remember the old Lawrence's. I noticed they have outside seating now. The ladies at the register greeted me and were patient while I looked at the menu. The wait wasn't too bad. My food came out HOT! I only can attest to the fried clams. I didn't try the other food. The clams were great! The tartar sauce was really good, too. My mom said the fish and shrimp were excellent and she can't wait for me to go back for her. Still a solid spot 👌🏾

Ordered a little bit of everything! Crispy! We ordered clams, oysters, popcorn shrimp, coconut jumbo shrimp, and dill pickle fries. All of them were good but our favs were the jumbo coconut shrimp with Thai chili sauce and the dill pickle fries with jalapeno ranch. The popcorn shrimp pairs well with the tartar sauce and was also good. I was concerned about some of the reviews stating that the shrimp has a chlorine taste but this was not the case at least for us it wasn't. Maybe for the other large shrimp they offer on the menu but we didn't order that we ordered the coconut jumbo shrimp. The banana pudding is also delicious, very rich and decadent. The lady who took our order was very polite, professional and respectful. Excellent customer service. The food came out piping hot and not overly fried which I was concerned that it would be but it was fried perfectly and all of our sauces were in the bag so I didn't have to ask! I couldn't give 5 stars because like many reviews said, the inside of the establishment smells like cleaning solution. They did have a mop bucket out near the bathroom and someone was mopping so that's why. I will say the restaurant is somewhat clean. There were crumbs on some of the tables that needed to be wiped down. Overall, it was relatively clean and smelled clean from the solution but since it is a restaurant I wouldn't recommend having it smell like pine sol when people want to eat inside it's just not appetizing. There is plenty of seating outdoors though but since we came late at night we wanted to dine inside and couldn't due to the smell so we had to leave and eat the food elsewhere. Overall, I would not dine in ever and would just order to go. If I had to order again from this place I would definitely order the jumbo coconut shrimp with Thai chili sweet sauce it was so good!!! I would also like to try their fried fish maybe the cod or perch next time!

What a treat! Going to Lawrence Shrimp and there is no staircase! The remodel, friendly staff and as always good food. Happy Mother’s Day to me!

If you know, you know—Lawrence Fisheries never disappoints. This spot has been consistently great every single time. They’re open late, which is a huge plus, and the food is always fresh. You can tell they really know what they’re doing back there. The quality speaks for itself—from the flavor to the portions, everything is on point. The service is just as solid—quick, efficient, and they take care of you. And if you stop by, make sure you ask for Val. That’s the go-to. Great service, great energy, and makes the whole experience even better. Definitely one of those places you can rely on when you want something good, fresh, and done right. Highly recommend.
