Holy Name Cathedral

This is the church where I attend Mass on every visit to Chicago. This architectural structure with a 150-year history features a unique wooden ceiling design. When the sunlight passes through the stained glass window, it makes one feel incredibly warm. Believe in God. He always brings us confidence, courage and strength. He fills our lives with hope and love.

Hermosa, hermosa, hermosa en tres palabras. La verdad es que sus techos de madera, vitrales, los órganos, las columnas de mármol preciosa. Esta en un sector donde pasan autos y personas constantemente, pero adentro se siente mucha paz. Cuando entramos estaba el santísimo en el altar y había mucha gente orando. Fue muy lindo.

One of Chicago’s most impressive landmarks. Holy Name Cathedral is a beautiful piece of the city’s history, with incredible architecture and a presence that stands out among the buildings around it. As a Chicago local, it’s one of those places you never get tired of seeing. Whether you’re walking through River North, visiting the area, or looking for a piece of Chicago history, it’s absolutely worth checking out.

Late review - but I’m happy to share my experience from January 2026. I attended the Feast Day of Sto Niño at the cathedral for the second time, and it was wonderful. It was great to gather after Mass and meet the Filipino community—it truly felt like home! One suggestion: the post-Mass gathering could be more festive, perhaps with a mini program to highlight the story of Sto Niño. The Filipino organizers could involve CPS Filipino teachers to perform the “Sinulog” dance, making the celebration even more vibrant and meaningful.

It's a beautiful church! I went during the week for a 12:00pm mass and it was great. The staff was very friendly and the priest was very clear when he spoke. I would definitely be back.

Holy Name Cathedral has beautiful architecture. The stained glass windows are just various colored glass with no depictions of Christ's life, the Blessed Mother, Catholic Saints or anything Christian sadly. There is also allot of black marble throughout that is very cold and drab. It's still a beautiful Cathedral but could venerate the sacred much better! In recent years the Mass schedule has also been greatly reduced.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I attended the Sunday 10:30 AM Mass at Holy Name Cathedral and it was truly amazing. The building is absolutely beautiful — stunning architecture, peaceful atmosphere, and a space that really lifts your spirit the moment you walk in. The priests were excellent — thoughtful, inspiring, and very engaging throughout the Mass. The choral was also wonderful and added so much to the experience. The music was powerful and beautifully performed. The only downside was a noticeable high-pitched buzzing sound coming from the lights. It was quite distracting at times and a bit annoying, especially during quieter moments. Overall, though, it was a beautiful and meaningful experience. I would definitely return.
