Chicago's Home of Chicken & Waffles

I’m originally from NY but now live on the East Coast. I flew back with my youngest son to visit family during Thanksgiving week, and as soon as we landed at Midway, eating was our top priority. Being a Monday morning, I apparently missed the memo that almost ALL breakfast spots on the South Side are closed on Mondays. Luckily, Chicago’s Chicken & Waffles was open! I’ve been here about five times before, but it was my son’s first visit. The atmosphere, food, and vibe were exactly what we needed. He had the Monique’s Special and I had the Shrimp and Grits with chicken andouille sausage. The chicken was a huge deal for me since I haven’t eaten pork since 1992! Both meals were phenomenal. While the food was stellar, what truly inspired this 5-star review was our waitress, Tesha. She is a consummate professional and a joy to be around—personable with such a wonderful, bright energy. I learned she’s been there for 13 years, and you don’t stay that long without being exceptional. The food drew us in, but Tesha’s service took the experience over the top!

Food was absolutely delicious. Delivered within 15 minutes with fresh flavors and a great variety of dishes in a really relaxed and calming atmosphere. Everything seems to be made of quality ingredients, which isn’t always the case with soul food. The food isn’t masked with seasoning it’s complimented by it. You can tell the establishment takes great pride in what they do.

Good was delicious! Ate at this location 2 days in a row and it did not disappoint! The waiters were very kind & attentive. The food was affordable as well & the wait time was very short. I recommend this spot to anyone. It is now my new favorite place to eat when I’m visiting the city.

The moment we stepped into this restaurant is the moment I knew this place was a complete vibe! The food was exceptional and the service was top tier. Thank you for a great experience! We will definitely return!

I love this place! We always receive great service from the staff. However, the food was just ok this time. The waffles specifically were really soft and needed more time to cook. Everything else was good. We will be back.

Our server, Morgan on May 15, 2026, served us well. She suggested the Lunch Specials. It was perfect portion size. We were getting back on the road to St. Louis then onto Memphis TN.

We ordered the chicken breast-wing and waffles, grit, spicy BBQ wings and fry...a kids meal mac and chicken. The chicken on all plates was delicious!! My waffles were soft, buttery and delicious. My grits were nice. Wings flavor was A1! The fries are real peeled fries. Well they tasted like it anyways. My gigi loved them tho! She was not fond of the mac N Cheese at all. Neither was I. Ask for a taste before you order some. Service was awesome. The waiter was very attentive, flawless and got right to us! The person bringing the food she was awesome too! The host was very nice. This black owned is owning it!! Never give up! Keep thriving!! The Atmosphere was a vibe. You have a church group laughing, a loving couple loving each other, a group of friends catching up and us (passing through before we get back to Freeland Michigan) I will definitely be getting out more this summer and bring my ladies here! I really hope I only have to edit this review for the better. The time here was awesome. Thanks everyone!!
