While in the area, I decided to look for some comic shops. I found this shop and decided to peruse their selection. Having an understanding wife helps. When we walked in, we were promptly greeted and the gentleman asked what we were looking for. I perused the wall books first and found something right away. He then had an employee go to their basement to find some other books I asked about. While they didnt have everything I wanted, they did have a lot. I asked if I could go into the basement to look around, but to no avail. Overall, it was a fantastic shop with a huge selection. We will be back when we are in Chicago again!

I had an extremely frustrating experience at Chicago Comics. I brought in two books (Fantastic Four #12 and Strange Tales #89) to get an offer, and what I got instead was a mix of disrespect and questionable expertise. The employee behind the counter made rude, dismissive comments almost immediately while looking at the books. Even worse, she clearly didn’t understand basic comic grading terminology—confusing things like foxing vs. browning and water stains vs. scuffs. Despite that, she graded the books at 1.8 and 2.0 and offered just $200 total, repeatedly emphasizing how “horrible” they were. For context, both Metropolis Comics and Graham Crackers Comics had previously evaluated these same books at approximately 6.5 and 4.5. When I brought that up, she didn’t even consider it—she flat-out dismissed them, claiming they weren’t experts and didn’t know what they were talking about. That alone says a lot. The attitude was basically “take it or leave it,” with zero professionalism. I chose to leave, at which point she added more unnecessary comments implying I wouldn’t be able to sell the books anywhere. I remember when this shop had a better reputation, but based on this experience, I won’t be back. Between the rude behavior and the lack of basic knowledge, I can’t recommend this place to anyone. If you want a fair and respectful evaluation, you’re far better off going to Graham Crackers or working with Metropolis.

I had an appointment yesterday for Chicago Comics to review and potentially purchase a small lot of comics I wanted to divest from. The manager was training a younger looking employee (perhaps his son) which was cool to see. He looked over my comics and checked prices for a few of the keys. He offered me a fair price for the lot after a brief discussion and accepted my slightly higher counter. I asked for store credit and began shopping right away! Thanks for the great experience fellas!

Incredible shop and staff. Recently had a bad experience at one of their competitors and they stepped in and made it right. Absolutely above and beyond service and I’ll be back!

I've been going here now since mid way of last year. This is hands down the best comic book store in the chicago area. Great selection of both recent comics and older back issues. Definitely recommend

One of my favorite comic book stores in the city. Friendly aura, lots of things to look at, and they sell work by local artist!

Exactly what I was looking for in a very well organized and stocked store. I will be back. I collect very specific DC giants from the silver age and found a pile.
