Had a great birthday dinner here. A little noisy for an intimate conversation (not complaining, just an fyi if that’s what you’re looking for) but overall service was good and the space is cozy. Enjoyed both the butcher steak and NY Strip, and they are well priced compared to other spots. The sides are strong here and the mashed potatoes and spinach are both musts. The sticky toffee pudding à la mode is a can’t miss!

Visitor notes
Came here for dinner on a Saturday night. I had called earlier that day to see if they had any reservations available, but unfortunately they didn't. I decided to take my chance and go to the restaurant later that night. No tables available, but they did have a seat at the bar available. Wait time was 1.5 hours. The cool thing about sitting at the bar here is that you get a front-row seat to the kitchen preparing the steak. The Ax Handle Rib Eye is massive and looked incredible as they cooked it, but I decided to order the Butcher's Steak. The steak was delicious and cooked just right. We also ordered the Pan-Fried Mashed Potatoes which I thought was a must-try. Such a unique dish! While researching St. Anselm, we couldn't wait to try the Sticky Toffee Pudding. So glad we did! My only complaint was that it tasted slightly salty. I noticed bits of sea salt garnished on top, and thought that it was unnecessary since the dish already tasted great. Overall, a very nice dining experience.
This place deserves all the praise. I love a good grill spot and everything off the grill here is pure bliss. Loved the clams and prawn, and the ax handle steak is in a category of its own. Chicken is phenomenal and reminds me that you should never rule it out. Desserts are decent but more to round off the meal. Great wine list to pair with everything too.
1st time. Butchers steak tender and affordable. Mash potatoes good. Ceasar salad was good but some greens were bitter and noticeable stems. Can we stick to regular lettuce please. Excellent service. Rustic atmosphere. Not a swanky steakhouse. I sat at the bar infront of them calling out orders. It was chaotic. I rather sit elsewhere. Not the best seat if you want to eat in peace. I don't want to feel like Hells Kitchen. I recommend trying.
It’s all so good. Not one bad dish ordered. We got the bacon, clams (omg) and the Caesar as apps. We all got our own steaks for the mains and shared spinach, mashed potatoes, and fingerling potatoes as sides. Everything was delish. Standouts were the butchers steak, mashed potatoes, clams, and spinach. The cheesecake and the sticky toffee pudding for dessert were ridiculously good. The vibes are also amazing. We went in a group of 7 and it was great.
St. Anselm is a solid spot if you care most about what’s on the plate and in your glass. The butcher’s cut steak is excellent – deeply flavorful, nicely charred, and cooked exactly to temp, easily one of the better values for steak in the city. The wine selection is also impressive, with plenty of interesting bottles at different price points, so it’s easy to find something that pairs well with the meat. Where the experience falls short is the service. It’s not terrible, but it doesn’t quite match the quality of the food and wine – a bit inattentive at times, slow to check in, and not as polished as you’d expect at this level. If you can be patient with the service, the steak and wine alone make it a place worth visiting
Hard to get reservations but we made it! Seating is a little tight but food was worth it. Kale Caesar 100/10. Heavy on the anchovies but my table loved it. Sourdough and Butter 9/10 Butchers Steak 10/10 Flatiron Steak 10/10 NY Strip Steak 9/10 Spinach Gratin 9/10 Pan Fried Mash 8/10 Fingerling Potatoes 7/10 Sticky Toffee Pudding 8/10 Would come back here for the steak and salad.
This place has such a unique vibe, I absolutely loved it. Came here for a steak night with a couple friends and we had a phenomenal time. We started with the steak tartare, and avocado & citrus appetizers and followed it up with butcher steaks, which were phenomenal, spinach gratin, mashed potatoes, and finished with the toffee cake. The service was exceptional as well and set a relaxed, fun tone for the entire night. If you’re looking for a high quality, unstuffy steak night, you’re looking for St Anselm.
