This museum completely exceeded my expectations. The first floor houses a fascinating collection of artifacts that offer a rich glimpse into different cultures and eras. Make sure to give yourself enough time here, there’s a lot to take in. The second floor is where things really shine, with an incredible collection of masterpieces from Monet, Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Degas, and many other legendary artists. Standing in front of these works in person is a completely different experience than seeing them in a book or online. Highly recommend for anyone who appreciates art and history. Plan for at least a few hours to do it justice, you won’t want to rush through it.
Stepping into its massive Beaux-Arts granite home, you encounter a sprawling, encyclopedic collection of nearly half a million objects. You can start your morning staring into the face of a 4,500-year-old Egyptian pharaoh, wander through the finest Japanese art collection outside of Japan, and spend your afternoon surrounded by more Claude Monet paintings than anywhere outside of France. The crown jewel is the Art of the Americas Wing, where soaring glass galleries make colonial portraits and modern masterpieces feel entirely connected. It is a massive, world-class institution that expertly balances breathtaking, monumental scale with quiet, intimate encounters with beauty.
Love the MFA, Boston. Every staff member is so kind and helpful and the displays are very well curated. The building and galleries are all gorgeous. The museum is spralling and visitors should definitely plan at least 3-4 hours at a minimum. There are fairly priced cafes and cafeteria with some delicious offerings. Enjoy your meal outside in the courtyard!
Whether you’re looking to duck away from the summer heat or winter gloominess, the MFA is a home to everyone seeking refuge in beauty across the ages. Where else can your face be a couple inches away from a Monet and never be harassed by staff or crowds as you connect with the art? My favorite ways to visit (if you haven’t already bought a MFA membership, which is well worth it): $13 movie tickets that grant you access to the halls, MFA open houses or $5 donation evenings, and MFA special events, like Late Nites. Ive simply never had a bad experience here — from MFA in Bloom every May to the Turkish/Iranian/French/Japanese film festivals, the nighttime parties, or the special exhibits that draw in different demographics — programming here is top notch, engaging, and incredibly well thought out and curated. The museum is accessible for all demographics, and facilities lovingly maintained. Staff in the galleries, gift shops, and counters are professional and generally knowledgeable about the exhibit, even if it isn’t their job to give orientations and tours. Security staff are always respectful and never do I feel like I’m being hawked while studying a piece. Bravo. My only complaint after dozens of visits was the occasional grumpy security staff at the end of the night who’s “been at the museum for 32 years” and mockingly says that they’ve seen everything — good for you, was just trying to connect on the wonder of the latest exhibit. Also, the most popular bathrooms could use more frequent refreshes. Enough people have raved about the MFA, but having been around the world to different museums, MFA really stands out as a fantastic world class institution.
Visited the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and overall it’s a really strong museum experience. The collection is massive and diverse, from ancient artifacts to modern art, so there’s something for almost everyone. The European paintings and Egyptian sections stand out, and you can easily spend hours here without getting bored. The layout is clean and well-organized for the most part.
The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston is stunning both inside and out, with a world-class collection and beautifully designed galleries. Walking through feels like moving through different eras and cultures, with everything from ancient artifacts to modern masterpieces displayed in a calm, elegant setting.
We love this place! Lots of Monets and my second favorite Pannini—Views of Modern Rome. If you want to see it all, I would take two days to do it. Make sure the gallery you want to see in open too—the John Copley Singleton gallery was closed and I really wanted to see it.
