This place was really cool and I only scratched the surface. The river walk is beautiful bundle up late December that wind was kicking at 630 am not warm and I’m from Mn and walk the dogs every day. Cool statues, nice sunrise, ships going by, cool statues, and some casinos. Had the dogs with wish we saw more if the museum but even the free part outside was really cool

The USS Kidd has been overhauled and completely refurbished with a new paint job. The only reason she isn’t back in Baton Rouge is she is waiting for the Mississippi River to become deep enough for her to get back in her cradle along the river bank. It may be some time until this is possible.

My only complaint is I have bad kidney disease. I have a medical bathroom compassion card from where I am from as they do not offer public restrooms. I needed to use the restroom. I explained my problem l. tried showing my medical compassion restroom card but guy could care less. It was obvious I was in distress. My bladder was in full spasm and my left kidney was cramping up due to me holding it. I had been on the road for over 6 hours as we had just drove straight from Houston. Tried showing the guy at the front desk and he would not let me use the restroom without making a cash donation first. My husband had to dig around for cash while I danced around and almost had an accident. I understand the homeless problem but I obviously am not homeless. In California it is against the law to refuse someone with a medical bathroom card a restroom. Needless to say, we changed our mind and did NOT GO into the museum. The guys was going to make me get back in my car and drive to the public library. Exceptions should be made for situations like this. Would have gotten admission tickets from us, instead got a $5 donation...sad.....

This museum is very interesting. It features a display of scale model ships, a tribute to soldiers and officers, weapons, and a lot of history. The tour of the museum can be completed in about 45 minutes. Then you can continue your visit on the museum ship, the USS Kidd (DD-661), a Fletcher-class destroyer that was one of the first ships of the United States Navy. The tour inside the ship can take about an hour to an hour and a half, especially if you follow all the signs and take your time to observe the details. It’s an iconic place where you can take great photos, it’s not expensive, and best of all—pets are allowed in both locations.

Small museum, but packed with memorabilia and a lot of information. First off, since the ship was being dry-docked for repairs, there was a discounted price. Second, all the information in all of the cases and next to the pictures is very informative. One thing I did find confusing was is the pirate exhibit, whose name is the same, Kidd, is that a relative of the ome who had the ship(s) named after him? I understand there is a lineage, given that his wife, after his death wanted the pirate flag flown on the ship. Other than that, it's a cute little place packed with information.

Great stop when traveling through Baton Rouge! The staff was so friendly and super helpful. The museum is perfect for any US Military, naval and maritime history buff. The Large model ships were a huge hit with my kiddos. The destroyer was great and my kids just loved exploring it. Beautiful views of the Mississippi. The grounds were very well kept. Fantastic historical experience.

We enjoyed the USS Kidd Veterans Museum. This is an average sized, two-story museum with lots of displays. We found the Japanese aviator’s flight suit and the remains of the kamikaze plane to be very interesting. There are also a collection of naval uniforms and two fighter jets on display as well as a small gift shop.

Great little museum and self-guided tour of the ship. The tour was very thorough and covered most of the ship. We only had an hour, which was just enough time to get a good look at the ship itself without lingering in any one area too long. I plan to come back another time to look at the museum and take a little more time onboard the Kidd.
