National Museum of Railroad History & Innovation

I came here for my 26th birthday and needless to say, I was beyond impressed. I love the fact that they have multiple model train layouts which I am a sucker for (although the garden railroad was not running when I was there because it was raining, but the two HO Scale layouts were running), and I love the fact that they have locomotives and railcars that you can climb inside, in fact, the second model train layout is inside one of the coaches. But, if I am being honest, my favorite railcar was the observation car because you could actually sit on the seats unlike all the other cars. And I love the fact that they have a children's play area, because it gives young children something to do at the museum if they get bored of the exhibits, and I have two young nieces, so I should know. Pity that they don't have a train ride like Steamtown, though.

We came here for the Day Out With Thomas the Tank Engine event. The event itself was very nice and our son had a great time riding the train. The museum is very interesting, with a lot of locomotives, coaches, etc. for you to read about and walk through. Anyone interested in train history, or anyone who just likes looking at trains, will not be disappointed.

This museum has an amazing array of trains. They were displayed well in an organized logical fashion in the beautiful round house. There was a very interesting variety of trains outside in the yard and in the maintenance building. The explanations were concise and comprehensive. It was fun to be able to go into some of the trains. The model train sets, history of the underground, and play areas for kids make this an amazing display of the history of trains. I very highly recommend this museum for anyone, train buff or not.

I took my Brother and Sister-in-law to visit the B & O Railroad Museum because he is a narrow gauge train fanatic. We went on a Wednesday and got 10% off and we had a blast. There had been some youth groups earlier in the day, but we ended up having the place to ourselves. Right in the middle of where the trains would switch out, stood a huge Christmas tree with space under it for kids to play. All around in a circle stood old engines dating back to the birth of the railroad. Some had ramps up to them to easily see the inside of the engine. There were also stagecoaches, both individual and two-level touring coaches. I found it amazing that anyone would travel any lengthy distance in one of those. The Museum featured a Candy Cane Cafe, which was unfortunately closed that day. A wonderful horn player was playing all of the great Christmas songs, and he even took our request for 'O Holy Night'. There were games for children of all ages and so we all made a keepsake ornament marking our visit. Last but not least, we went to the museum gift shop. It was chock full of goodies. We bought my husband a Lionel Train T-shirt, and I got a gingerbread-style train ornament, and my brother bought my husband a year's membership to the Museum. A grand time was had by all.

Wow, this place is really cool 😎. It is bigger than I thought!. The history of B&O and trains was very interesting. The train room was so nice. You can go in some of them. Then the outside trains, the American freedom train is there, restored. You can also go insome of the trains outside. It's definitely worth a visit. There's model trains running and scale trains to see as well.

If you’re in the area and looking for something indoor for you or kids, then this is it. They also have outdoor activities depending on what day/ time you’re going. On sites tickets are available to purchase. Well organized and clean site! Also, very clean restrooms. There are many things to learn.

This is a fun place to go for families. There’s so much to do with your kids here. There are games, music, crafts, kid’s rides and food. The train ride is a fun experience but don’t expect spectacular views as it is in an actual working rail in an industrial part of Baltimore. Actually, even if you don’t have kids, if you like trains or history, this place is worth visiting.

I had a great experience, first time I've been to the museum. Such a great atmosphere. Youre encouraged to wander and learn. Many exhibits are interactive in some way. The staff was amazing and happy to share their passion. I highly reccomend you visit. I consider the ticket to be a bargain for as much fun as I had!
