Olde Town Arvada is way off my usual stomping grounds, so although I had read quite a bit about this shop over the years, I had never visited. We finally decided to check out the shopping and dining district. Rheinlander was our final (and best!) stop. The bakery dates back to 1963 and is now on the third generation of ownership. The quality is certainly being maintained at a high level. This is a traditional, German bakery with a huge variety of authentic European cakes, cupcakes, sweet and savory pastries, pies, cookies, coffee cakes, and the only reason I think a German bakery should exist—strudel! Strudels are available whole, half, or by the slice. The usual flavors are apple, cherry, blueberry cream cheese, cherry cream cheese, and Boston cream. We bought slices of the apple, cherry, and blueberry cream cheese. These were perfection and absolutely delightful. I was totally focused on the strudel case (yes, there's a lot of strudel on offer), but I believe there are eight huge cases of treats, each one looking more enticing than the next. Quite a few gluten-free, sugar-free, and dairy-free options are available, so if that's what you need, this is the place for you. The bakery was moderately busy during our visit. There was plenty of staff and they were all friendly, helpful, and very efficient, so purchases moved swiftly. Lots of coffee and drink options are available. There's nice outside seating if you can't wait to take your goodies home. It's a long drive for us, but we were really impressed and we'll find a reason to visit Arvada so we can stop back soon. Yum.

First time visiting and while walking around to see their pastries I wasn't acknowledge at all. I didn't know if I should go to the register or ask for the pastries first and then pay. I ended up ordering at the register and then getting the pastries which they were good. There's no space to seat blindside but they have a few seats outside.

The bakery is always busy but for a good reason. Everything was great and they have specific accommodations for food allergies. Gluten free options are prepared in a dedicated space so there is no cross contamination. The employees are super friendly and helpful.

Wow!!! This is the new standard for bakeries! Everything made on site. A huge selection of gluten free items. Biscotti made with both almond and rice flours.

This bakery is truly exceptional. The seven-layer Dobash cake with maple buttercream was the standout—beautifully balanced, deeply flavorful, and dipped in dark chocolate that added just the right amount of richness. Every layer was moist and thoughtfully executed, and the maple buttercream brought a smooth, comforting sweetness without overpowering the cake. The streusel was outstanding as well—perfectly buttery, crisp, and packed with flavor. You can tell a lot of care and craftsmanship goes into everything they make. Easily one of the best bakeries I’ve visited, and absolutely worth going out of your way for!

This place has really gone down hill and I would no longer recommend this store. Der Kuchen ist alt und schmeckt nicht gut. Last year we were disappointed even after buying two cakes, strudel and cookies for a birthday/Mother’s Day - and paid an Egg Fee. I told myself I wouldn’t go back, but found myself trying it one last time and as suspected it’s even worse. When I walked in the store had a tangy off odor or what smelled like old sugar fermenting or rotting….i thought I would go with the safest bet and get a German Chocolate cake….we just tried eating it and the frosting tastes stale and has an off flavor…along with the coconut….mind you, they no longer use whole ingredients and use cheaper commercial ingredients like Walmart and Safeway bakeries use. But now the items are starting to taste stale and rancid. It’s really unfortunate to see such a great bakery stoop to this level with zero quality control and charge top tier prices. I just don’t foresee this place staying around much longer and I’ll never go back.

Love this German Bakery! Treats and cakes are delicious 😋 It is a little pricey, but so well worth it! Quality ingredients, quality products! Recommend this bakery especially for their cakes!

Don't pass up this family-owned bakery just because it's not on a main street. This Old Town Arvada bakery has been baking authentic European goodies for over 60 years so you know it's great and worth finding. Bought several items here and all were fresh, delicious, and beautifully decorated. Enjoyed their strudels, cupcakes, cookies, and more. You can watch them make their delectable delights right behind the counter too. Staff are patient as you try to decide on what and how many to pick. No more store bought pastries for me when in the Arvada area.
