Had a great 9pm Saturday catch-up at the legendary Shish Mahal. We had to try the famous Chicken Tikka Masala, and it didn't disappoint—especially paired with rice and an enormous Peshawari naan. They also have a good selection of soft drinks and low-alcohol beer. One tip: Unrelated to the restaurant itself, but be aware that you have to pay for on-street parking until 10pm. An absolute Glasgow classic and highly recommended!
I chose this restaurant for my birthday meal back in March. When we arrived it was quiet and we were served by a friendly waitress. We ordered a starter- spinach and cheese poori, two mains-chilli korma, lamb dish, rice and garlic naan breads with two Irn Brus. The food was nice enough, expensive but was shocked at being charged pretty much a tenner for two tiny Irn brus that hadn't been refrigerated. I have been three times since moving to Glasgow and I'm always hopeful service will improve but it doesn't. The young woman was friendly enough and the man with a strong Glaswegian accent seems friendly (he didn't serve us but he was the only one who smiled as we were leaving.) The other people made us feel unwelcome like we were being a nuisance spending our money there. Eating out is very much a treat and I was so excited to go out for my birthday only to be surrounded by some very miserable staff. A young man served us at one point and he made it very clear he didn't want to. I asked if I could take my leftovers home, he seemed annoyed at this and slammed plates on top of the naan I was taking home. I tried smiling, but got nothing. In the end we did leave a tip for the young lady but goodness knows if she got it.. no one else bothered to treat us with kindness. I never receive bad service in other places we go to, so I will be sticking to other trusted restaurants in the future. I really hoped service would improve each time we have tried it but we end up leaving disheartened, we always try to support local restaurants rather than big chains but something is making the staff hostile here.
Came here on holiday. Service was exceptional and the food the same.
Just had a fantastic meal in Shish. Lived in Glasgow 20 years but never been. Apparently the origin of CHICKEN TIKKA MASALA in the late 70s. Great food, wine, beer and service.
Went with the family. Great service. Mr Ali(junior) was around and was extremely welcoming. Enjoyed hospitality very well! Very attentive and welcoming staff. Service was top notch. Tikka masala, jalfrezi, vegetable kadahi, malai kofta weee delicious! We asked for medium spice level which was perfect although my daughter thought the malai kofta could’ve been a little spicy. Visit if you’re around Glasgow Starters of mixed pakora, cauliflower and veg pakora and samosa chaat were very good!
On a cold wintery evening the food was warming and hearty. Maybe just lacking in atmosphere as the room we sat in was really brightly lit and the decor quite minimal. Service was friendly and efficient and I would recommend if you are looking for good quality Indian food
Friendly welcome and attentive service. Wide-ranging menu gives plenty of choice. We had tandoori mixed grill which included naan, rice and sauce with tandoori prawns which was all very tasty. Very happy diners especially when the very reasonable bill came.
