We booked in advance and paid a non-refundable deposit. Upon arrival, we were told the food wait time could be up to an hour. While unexpected, we appreciated the heads-up so we could order immediately and stay on track for our next plans. However, we weren't allowed to order at the bar and had to wait a significant amount of time just for a server to take our order. Since we had two 12-month-old babies with us, we asked if our order could be prioritized. The server kindly said she would try, though it’s unclear if anything came of it. An hour after ordering, we politely asked a staff member for an update. They went to check but never returned. Fifteen minutes later, our original server informed us it would be another 30 minutes due to a kitchen mistake. To speed things up, we paid for our bill before our food arrived, as the babies had already been sitting patiently for 90 minutes and we needed to be out of there fast so not an enjoyable meal, which is a shame because the food tasted good. While the server was apologetic, there was no gesture to make things right. We paid the full bill—including service—without a fuss to avoid further frustration. I'm leaving this review so other customers are aware of the long wait times, and in the hope that management will handle situations like this better in the future.

The Waggon and Horses continues to prove why traditional village pubs still matter. Recent investment in the beer garden and facilities has transformed the place noticeably, with improvements that clearly haven’t gone unnoticed by regulars and newcomers alike. The outdoor space now feels far more welcoming and polished, especially as the warmer months approach. What truly sets the pub apart, however, is the staff. The team behind the bar consistently go above and beyond — always friendly, professional and genuinely attentive in a way that many pubs seem to have lost over the years. Service feels personal rather than transactional, which creates a warm atmosphere throughout. The management also deserve credit for the way they run the pub and the promotions they offer. Discounted drinks during football matches are a great touch and add to the overall atmosphere on big match days. Special mention must also go to the recent karaoke night, which was unexpectedly brilliant and one of the best local evenings out in quite some time. The atmosphere was electric from start to finish and it would be fantastic to see these events become a more regular fixture. In an era where many pubs struggle to maintain character, The Waggon and Horses seems to be moving firmly in the right direction. It’s refreshing to see a local pub investing in both its facilities and its community spirit — and it’s certainly a place I’ll be returning to regularly.

After a trip to the Harry Potter Universal Studios we took a trip to this little gem. Honestly we would‘nt have found this place without having seen the reccomendation on Trip Advisor! And we were not let down! We are tourists from Germany with british roots and really enjoy good authentic british food. The waggon and horses did not disappoint! We had special made mocktails for us which were not on the menue but delicious! The waggon burger as well as the pie of the day were absolutely spot on! Especially the gravy was great! Bruschetta and simple chicken nuggets for the little one stood out as well! We tried the nutella balls and apple crumble for dessert and did not regret the treats at the end. However what stood out for us was the exceptional service by Curtis ! From the recommendations, the lovely way he looked out for our little one and her wishes, the nice little chats up to the perfectly attentive service we had, we have nothing left to say but thank you! It was a lovely evening!

My first time coming here, it was recommended by a friend. And wow, the service? Amazing! The food? Delicious! The staff? So friendly! My server, Shanda was so patient, so kind. Always making sure we had everything we needed and even brought out water unprompted when she saw we were feeling the heat. I can’t recommend this place enough I will be coming again! Thank you!

I have just hosted my 50th birthday party in the marquee at the Waggon & Horses. I cannot fault my experience from start to finish. The team showed such patience with me and answered my queries calmly and professionally. On the night, the marquee looked amazing when I arrived early-they had listened to how I wanted everything and set it up perfectly even putting out my snacks and adding pretty tea lights to the tables. Nothing was too much trouble for them, they even tailored the menu for me. Special mention must go to the fantastic manager, Curtis, who was so flexible and helpful. He kept it all running smoothly and I felt calm knowing he had everything in hand. I can thoroughly recommend this as a party venue and would book again in an instant.

We should have spotted the warning signs when we arrived shortly after 4pm on Father’s Day Sunday for our booking and we noticed several other guests complaining and asking where their food was. We placed our order around 4.20pm, got told there were no Sunday roasts left, so chose other things. Just 4 simple mains. One hour later, still no food. We asked how long it was going to be as we had tickets for something at Elstree studios. Couldn’t believe it when the waiter said it would be another 25 minutes! We had to leave without food at that point, having driven 1hr45min for what should have been a nice Father’s Day meal. So disappointing. The servers were perfectly friendly when we could catch them, but we seemed invisible most of the time. Why did they not think to warn us in advance that there was a such a delay in food, give us the chance to go elsewhere for some food? Ridiculous. I have never experienced anything like this before anywhere!

"If you are looking for top-tier pub food paired with a brilliant drink selection, The Waggon and Horses absolutely delivers. We visited for a meal recently and were blown away by the quality of the food. Everything tasted incredibly fresh and well-prepared—not your standard, generic pub microwave fare. The seasonal dishes are a massive highlight, but you really can't go wrong with their hearty classics or Sunday roast. The portions are remarkably generous for the quality, making it fantastic value. The drinks menu is just as impressive. They have a brilliant variety of crisp lagers and well-kept real ales on tap, but the real surprise was their fantastic gin selection! If you appreciate a perfectly paired spirit and tonic, you will love it here. The bar staff are deeply passionate and more than happy to recommend a great pour.
