We chose El Inca Plebeyo because we were going to the theatre nearby and wanted somewhere convenient for lunch. It turned out to be a genuinely pleasant surprise and one of those increasingly rare London finds: independent, family-run, welcoming and completely unpretentious. The name translates roughly as “The Inca of the People” or “The Commoner Inca”, and that is exactly what the restaurant feels like: warm, down-to-earth, accessible and full of character. The food was distinctive, beautifully presented and full of flavour. We particularly enjoyed the sea bass ceviche with avocado and tiger’s milk, the Wagyu beef ceviche, the crispy pork belly, and the slow-cooked Ecuadorian pork shoulder. Each dish felt carefully prepared and reflected a modern, confident take on Ecuadorian cooking. The service was warm and friendly, and we felt genuinely welcome throughout. Some small details may not appeal to everyone, but it is clear that the team care deeply about what they do and make a real effort to give guests a memorable experience. A lovely discovery. I will definitely return.

This place was an unexpected but very successful find. The menu is almost entirely gluten free, and the staff were knowledgable and helpful about allergens. The food was incredible - we had ceviche, slow cooked beef, pork belly, chocolate fondant, and Ecuadorian rice pudding - and it was all utterly delicious. We also had some really lovely Ecuadorian wine. It's right next door to Essex road train station and an easy walk from Highbury and Islington. The relaxed but traditional family vibe was fantastic, the family who own it were lovely as was our waitress, and we felt very welcome there with our young child.

Got the cassava fries, encocado, and jipijapa ceviche. Super yummy food and really friendly service. We were a big group and the staff was so accommodating and patient. The hostess recommended cassava with encocado and she knew wat she was talking about. Would definitely come back again

As a half-Ecuadorean, this was spectacular! Prepare to have very full bellies, and one of the best Mojitos in the entire country (no lie). Portions are extremely generous. Fully recommend the Ceviche Ecuatoriano *chefs kiss* can’t wait for next time! 🇪🇨 🦅 🔥

Such a gem of a place, surprised it wasnt full. Super delicious, we came for my sisters birthday! Everything was delicious from the drinks, food and dessert! The Ingredients were fresh and the taste didn’t miss! They even created a kids friendly pasta on the spot for my niece and she gobbled it all up. Special thanks to all the staff on shift, they were welcoming, warm and knowledgeable. 100% recommend if you want to try authentic Ecuadorean food.

We came hoping to feel a little closer to home, and that’s exactly what we got. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel really welcome. The service was first-class and we followed the recommendations we were given, which we’re very grateful for as they were spot on and allowed us to enjoy the full experience. The place has a lovely atmosphere, with music that perfectly complements the meal and lets you enjoy everything at a relaxed pace. The food was incredible. We had the Jipijapa ceviche, encocado and beef, and to drink we tried an Andean sangria and a canelazo. Everything was absolutely delicious, clearly prepared so you can savour every bite. We’ll definitely be back. 100% recommended.

Such a beautiful little spot! Rustic interior with Ecuadorian details. The food was delicious - pictured below - we ordered cheese empanadas, ceviche Classico (with sea bass and sweet potato) barley risotto with lamb, chicken with chimichurri, menestra (beans), broccoli and the quinoa pudding for dessert (with caramelised top and little pieces of pomegranate inside - a must try!). Also, we weren’t drinking so we ordered the chicha andina, which tasted just like a spiced mulled wine. We could have ordered less but we wanted to try everything, so you wouldn’t have to spend as much as we did. Overall with this food and two mocktails we spent about £130. The staff were super attentive and friendly. Music was at a nice level, tables were small and intimate but spaced out. We can’t wait to go back, highly recommend! Overall 10/10 experience

Such delicious food! The atmosphere is lovely, and the dishes are amazing: high quality and truly taste home-cooked. We recently returned from a trip to Ecuador and had really been missing the food. This meal brought back so many wonderful memories and put big smiles on our faces. We had the Ecuadorean roast, the cassava fries, tamale, empanadas and sangria- all gorgeously delicious. Can’t wait to come again!!
