Arriving in Birmingham after being stuck on a long delayed train, I felt like going for something to eat. Talking to the excellent staff at the record store The Diskery, I was recommended a place that I had not heard of before. Situated within The Duke of Wellington Hotel & Bar pub ( there are a number of signs outside the pub for Café Racer. ) The restaurant is to the side of the main bar. The restaurant has a large dining room. The room features a mix of single and large tables for groups. From the framed football t-shirt and signed cricket bat mounted on the wall of the entrance, the location has a wonderful, refined appearance. From when I originally went, the staff have been absolutely fantastic. Along with being very friendly, the staff have also come up with great suggestions for what to pair the food with. The menu features a very good selection of soft drinks, beers, wines and spirits. Since my first visit, the food has been absolutely splendid. From delicious Vegan and South Indian fish curries, to Spiced Lamb Chops all being served in terrific portions and packed with flavour. Due to having an event to attend, on this occasion, I went for a Smoked Lamb Curry Wrap. The lamb was incredibly tender with subtle smoky notes. The smell and taste of the wraps was extremely aromatic with a lingering spicy aftertaste. Taking the last bite, I set off to see the Australian band Atticus Chimps, with a new spice for life.

The food is extremely flavourful, the service kind and considerate! The team visited our table to ask about our satisfaction and actually we had a nice chat with two guys from the team. I've already tried a few Indian restaurants in Birmingham and compared to Indian Cafe Racer, they don't do well! This restaurant certainly has a youthful vibe and very tasty food with very good service. Now, I haven't tried the whole menu yet but I'll do so in time and update my review here. For the time being, I can say that you should try the butter chicken, the pilou and the red mullet starter. And the ras malai is the best I've ever tasted! The flavours in it are so balanced and it's not too sweet, which usually kills a dessert. We went there for my husband's birthday and the team helped us celebrate with some prosecco and gulab jamun. I have 2 things negative to say, which are not very major. I didn't like the poppadom tray as the fried bits of dough that accompanied the poppadoms tasted stale. And the portions are slightly small but then the prices are reasonable. And, don't leave without having some chai. It's just the best chai you will have ever tasted!

We have truly never tasted Indian food so nice. We chose everything that the lady recommended, and we are so glad that we did. Service is fantastic. Friendly, attentive, keeping the table clean. We are so pleased we stumbled across this little gem. Now we just need an excuse to come back to Birmingham so we can eat here again.

A fantastic meal in a relaxed casual environment with superb service. First time eating here and loved it. From start to finish, the service was excellent. Welcoming, friendly, making sure everything was to our liking. Wiping the table in-between servings, tidying up the table layout, topping up our water, explaining the menu. Absolutely top notch service. Food was fantastic too. Nicely presented, wonderful flavours and vegetarian marked with a V on the menu too. Environment was casual, cosy, relaxed and even has a real Cafe Racer too. A nice authentic touch was the incense. Took me back to my trip to India years ago. Well recommended.

Great indian food! Too much good stuff to choose from. Started with a Papi mix, great chudney’s. Had the Lamb tandori which was very tender and flavorfull, with Raita and Nan tandori. Staff is very kind and helpful. Bit of a mix between an English pub and Indian vibes

Had a really lovely dinner here. The starter plates are really exceptional, especially the Dahi Puri, Chicken 65, and Gobi Manchurian. We liked the curries on the mains although not quite to the same level as that smaller dishes but the range and quality of cocktails was also great. Staff were friendly on top so had a very pleasant experience and will definitely return.

The food, decor and cocktails were amazing. The staff were so friendly and helpful! We had chicken 65, chilli chicken, rajasthani lamb, chicken makani, rice and naan! Everything was perfectly cooked and balanced. Our favourite cocktails were pineapple throttle and the silver screen. Would 100% recommend!
