Vehicle Registration

Was terrified to come in based on the reviews but had a good experience. It’s like dealing with any DMV back home. Expect wait times and come in with a good attitude 🤷🏻‍♀️ guy was training and made a typo on our name the Esso card lady noticed, luckily it’s just for the 30 day registration permit.

I'm going to be the odd person out in the review section. But, I had a great experience registering my vehicle. I made sure to have all of my documents (quadruple checked), brought my own tools (many didn't and borrowed mine), and scheduled appointments for registration and inspection. The entire process took me a little over an hour! About 15mins at the main registration building, 20mins picking up and inspecting my car, 10mins German inspection and 25mins or so finalizing at the substation. Definitely recommend setting up appointments and going early! Don't forget paperwork (USAR license, registration/proof, Germany Insurance, etc). Also, bring tools and required safety equipment for your vehicle (triangle, vest, first aid kit). They had a vending machine but each was a good 20 euros. You can also email for questions prior to wasting your time driving there. Overall, great experience!

6 hour wait time. Horrible. Staffing terrible. What are we doing to solve this issue? Utilize joint forces? There is 9 stations with ONLY 1 staff member working. Make it make sense. Front desk was nice on my arrival but staffing is ridiculous. Don’t have 1 station open and input 20 or so on the wait list.

What a joke of a place man, went to get a new vehicle registered and got told that my insurance name was backwards on the card, got told to kick rocks after waiting for almost 2 hours, got it fixed in 10 min came back and guess what got told to kick rocks again lol, couldn’t even have the decency to see me again the same airman on the same empty desk wow. Great service guys thank you.

Despite the low overall rating, I had a top-notch experience at Kapaun Vehicle Registration. Shoutout to SrA C. and civilian Mr. G. at the front - both were professional, efficient, and genuinely friendly. I was in and out faster than expected. They kept the process smooth, answered questions without attitude, and made what’s usually a dreaded task surprisingly pleasant. Also, major props to the technician working the inspection line—handled the mechanical checks with precision and speed while staying courteous and clear about the process. No wasted motion, no confusion - just solid, competent service. These three are setting the standard for how this office should run. Much respect to all of them.

The wait time is much shorter than during covid. Also great that they no longer make you cue in the 2meter app. Faster, but still plan for a couple of hours.

Just want to show my appreciation for the people working here and the service they do for the KMC community. We’ve always had a good experience and the people are helpful and kind as long as you are respectful (it’s not that hard, people). The queue system with the option to get in line before even arriving is a game changer and has saved us a lot of time.

I waited 2 1/2 hours to register my vehicle for permanent plates and was denied by an older fellow because of not having a customs form that was unfortunately still with my car dealer (my fault). Additionally, the registration team throughout those 2 1/2 hours went on either a break or a meeting twice, both with a duration of 15-30 minutes or more. I went to customs on Ramstein and talked to the representatives there, who stated I didn't need the form for temporary plates and that I should re-attack ASAP. Additionally, I called my car dealer and a few coworkers to confirm this before I queued again, to which they agreed with customs. I had to re-queue to attempt to get temporary plates and wait another 3 hours due to me being in position 29. I got called and started the process for temp plates with another representative. Everything was going smoothly until the new rep asked who helped me earlier, to which I replied an older gentleman to the left. Overhearing this conversation, the old man rounded the corner scoffing at me and seemingly offended that I referred to him as an “older gentleman,” stopping my representative and stating that they can't help me even for temp plates. I stated that customs said otherwise, and he disagreed, giving my documents back, prompting me to leave empty-handed yet again. This registration is always a cesspool of disappointing ventures. Never show up here expecting to have a happy outcome.
